The federal government and legislature as well as the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) have passed many laws to regulate this type of technology. Also, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulate other sections of cloning. The FDA regulates its namesake, food and drugs. The USDA has a main branch called the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). APHIS is charged with safeguarding agriculture from food, disease, and drugs. Lastly, there is an organization called the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which is in charge of regulating bioengineered pesticides.
